Toy Devlog
This week's assignment was to make a toy in Unreal Engine. Something that doesn't have an objective but still brings joy to the player.
My game is somewhat of a painter toy, where the player shoots the ball and it changes the color of the blocks in comes into contact with.
What makes this toy fun and unique is the randomness, the creative freedom, and the straightforward mechanics. I call this toy the Paintball and you may ask, well isn't it just a paintball? I mean yes in a sense, but this toy is different. You get a random array of different colors that appear when the block is stricken by the ball. The player is able to then change that color completely again and again as many times as they want. Imagine an even bigger wall that the player can paint or design their own images in with just the click of a button. When may be surprising about this toy is how random the colors are, and how you never know which one you will get next. It leave all of the creativeness to the player. I believe this toy touches at the nostalgic feeling of art class or painting as a young kid and I thought the colors may add to that feeling. It's comfortable and straight to the point, providing the player with their own agency and the feeling of pure creation they may have felt as a kid.
